CMA

Position Summary:

The overall purpose of the medication aide position is to administer oral and topical medications to residents. Incumbents perform these tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations, and consistent with facility policies. Incumbents also perform routine daily tasks required in maintaining the health, comfort, and well-being of the residents.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of five rights of medication administration
  • May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned o as may be required by certain medications
  • Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately
  • Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift
  • Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy
  • Must be able to push/pull medication cart for extended periods
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Documents reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner
  • May dispense narcotics and must account for them under the supervision of the licensed nurse per facility policy
  • Properly secures medication carts/medication room per state/federal regulations and facility policy
  • Attends facility education in-services
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience Requirements:

  • State certification as a nursing assistant
  • State approved medication administration certification
  • Complete familiarity with duties of a certified nursing assistant
  • Highly developed observation skills are desirable
  • Functional literacy in English is required
  • Tolerance, patience, empathy and concern are desirable
  • Vision must be adequate to read medication labels, etc.

CNA

Position Summary:

The overall purpose of the certified nurse’s aide (CNA) position is to provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort consistent with company policy.
  • Promotes and supports the greatest possible degree of independence for residents
  • Advises supervising charge nurse of resident status at beginning and end of shift
  • Contributes knowledge of resident conditions/needs to resident care plans
  • Assists in the implementation of care plans as directed within the parameters of established policy and procedure
  • Observes and reports on resident’s conditions, and documents observations as required
  • Promotes safe/clean environment
  • Complies with requirements of procedures for safe lifting and/or safe transfer of residents per established policies and procedures
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Assures that equipment is clean and functional
  • Attends in-service training programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
